ARTICLE TOOLS
In tough economic times, students really need to pay attention to which career choices may be the best for them. To withstand a down turn in the economy, there are some careers that stand out as being “recession proof”. One of these careers is Software Engineering and Development.
Computer software engineers apply the principles of computer science and mathematical analysis to the design, development, testing, and evaluation of the software and systems that make computers work. Computer software engineers begin by analyzing users’ needs, and then design, test, and develop software to meet those needs. Systems software engineers also work for companies that configure, implement, and install the computer systems of other organizations.
Most employers prefer applicants who have at least a bachelor’s degree and experience with a variety of computer systems and technologies. In order to remain competitive, computer software engineers must continually strive to acquire the latest technical skills.
With a median annual salary of $85,000 to $95,000, a career in this field is a solid choice for those looking ahead for the future. Computer software engineers are among the fastest growth occupations through 2016, according to the Department of Labor.
