UNR gets National Merit Scholarship Sponsorship

ARTICLE TOOLS

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced that it will approve sponsorship of a scholarship at the University of Nevada Reno.

The university awards the $15,000 annual scholarship to entering freshmen students who are National Merit Finalists. The scholarship covers four years of undergraduate study, paying for tuition, fees, books, automatic entry into the Honors Program and room and board in the honors wing of Argenta Hall.

UNR President Milton Glick has said that despite difficult economic times that have forced cutbacks and layoffs at the campus, the university can’t afford to lose its brightest students to out-of-state colleges.

Having National Merit Scholars also impacts the quality of education on the campus, he said.

This sponsorship will help the University to have high ranking students in its programs.  The university currently has 17 National Merit Scholars enrolled on its campus.
