Many Options with an Education Degree

ARTICLE TOOLS

School teachers of today have less in common than teachers 50 years ago. Technological advances have given teaching a new direction, and even how one earns a teaching degree.

As the technological and financial aspects of the American education system change rapidly, current and prospective teachers have more content and methodology than ever to learn.

The benefits of a career in education have become more appealing during the economic downturn. Such benefits will allow more educators of retirement age to end their careers in a timely matter, which could lead several states and non-profit organizations to encourage mid-career professionals to become teachers, according to The Reporter, a North Penn, Pennsylvania-based newspaper.

Consequently, more nontraditional options for education certification are available for those with professional or family commitments. Last year, more than 62,000 teachers across the country received teaching certification through alternative routes, which means they were allowed to enter their classrooms before completing their training, the Center for Education Information Reports.

Such options allow teachers to begin their careers while they fulfill their education requirements through online courses or training programs.

Teachers who entered their professions through alternative means proved to be as effective in reaching their students as those who underwent a traditional education, a recent study from the National Center for Education Evaluation and Regional Assistance found.

As a result, schools experiencing shortages of qualified teacher are expanding certification options for their employees.

Earning a teaching degree online can be a great way to start a new career, or advance in your current position. Teachers who work for public institutions often have great benefits and retirement plans. State pension programs can make becoming a teacher a sound investment for their futures.
